HARPERS FERRY, WV – River Riders Inc, the premiere river outfitter in the Harpers Ferry, WV area has completed work on their new zip line canopy tour along the Potomac River near Bakerton. In planning for about 2 years, the Harpers Ferry Canopy Tour took about 5 months to build and features 7 towers, the highest being 55 feet above the ground.
Primarily a rafting and tubing outfitter, River Riders wanted to build the zip-line tour to offer guests an activity to do that isn’t as dependent on water levels, according to marketing director Tacy Judd.
“Water levels here can be pretty low in the summertime, so this gives them an option,” she said. “Plus, some people aren’t water people. … (It’s) something that they can do that doesn’t require them liking the water. You get a great view of the water, but you don’t have to get in it.”
During the Zip Line/Canopy Tour, guests fly high above the ground along 7 various length ziplines from 200 to nearly 800 feet in length. Mixed in are several belayed ladder climbs and two bridges. The tour is a 3 hour experience and is geared toward those approximately 5 years of age and older and between 40 – 250lbs.
The tour features 15 adventurous elements, including Ziplines, tandem ladder climbs, a plank bridge, a Burma bridge, and a 25 foot lower from the final platform. The tour also features breathtaking scenery along the Potomac River above harpers Ferry.
